    INSTITUT DE FRANCE, ACADEMIE DES SCIENCES. 5 images from the French mission to Noumea, New Caledonia, as part of an international project to observe the transit of Venus in 1874.
    Includes lithographic plate showing the observatory and its surroundings, 1 image of a detail of the works, 2 double-page plates showing apparatus used, plus a topographic map of the area around the observatory. The map and the double plates measure about 18x11 inches or 46x28cm, the lithograph is 9x11 inches, and the other image is an illustration in the text. These images were bound into an 1878 report on the Venus project by the Institut de France.
    Condition of these prints
    Some light brown staining but overall bright and clear.
