Description
This is a nice, brilliant uncirculated, silver,
“Fifty Centavos”
from the
“Commonwealth of the Philippines”
when it was under United States administration. It was struck at the San Francisco mint in 1944 during World War II.
The Japanese bombed the Philippines the same day they bombed Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1941,
"The day that will live in infamy"
.
At the time the Islands were under the suzerainty of the United States.
They landed troops in the Philippines on December 10. Manila was taken January 2, Bataan fell April 9, and finally Corregidor on May 6, forcing MacArthur's famous
"I Shall Return"
statement when he left.
After he, and a few others did return, the Japanese were defeated.

The Coin:
Brilliant cartwheel luster and very few marks. It has picked up a little dirt and has gently toned but this one never saw use and has never been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
