This handsome map is lithographed in full color on two sides and opens to a generous 38" x 32".
There is a key to ethnic groups in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Burma, and the Malay Peninsula, with illustrations of traditional costume within the area's extraordinary mosaic of peoples and cultures, including Thai, Khmer, Cham, Rhade, Mnong Gar, Lao, Karen, Shan, Kitchin, Yao, Meo, Lisu, Chin, Burman, and more.
Descriptive text highlights the region's culture and history. This map was printed in 1971, the year in which President Nixon makes the announcement: "the end of the Vietnam War is in sight."
It was also the year in which U.S. fighter-bombers launched heavy air strikes against NVA supply camps in Laos and Cambodia, Lieutenant Calley was convicted of murder for the My Lai Massacre, and
The New York Times
published the Pentagon Papers.
On the reverse side there is a political map of Asia, drawn on a scale of 1:13,812,480.
There have been a number of changes since this map was printed, besides the unification of North and South Vietnam into a single country. Burma is now known as Myanmar, East Pakistan is Bangladesh, and parts of the Soviet Union are independent nations.
