    Description

2008-8 August IRAN National Geographic Map Poster School
The last great tectonic collision raised the mountains and central plateau of Iran, and while that collision is still in motion, it makes Iran prone to violent earthquakes. Roughly the size of Alaska, Iran lies between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. Throughout history, Iran has been at the crossroads of migration, trade, and invasion; it remains at the crossroads of conflict and trade to this date. This is a study of the history and geography of Iran. On the geographic map-side is a classic physical map of Iran, color-coded according to the typical land-cover of that area. There is also an identification and description of the major regions of Iran: Iranian Plateau, Elburz Mountains & Caspian Coast, Kavir and Lut Deserts, Makran Coast, and the Zagros Mountains. The reverse-side titled “The Empire of Persia” also contains a map of the region containing information and locations of the various civilizations and empires that resided in the area throughout history. Across the bottom is a time-line of the various rulers. An important study for an area much in the news, today, and likely in the future.
    Map is approximately 20” x 31”.
