    Description

    Name:   Lepidocystus wanneri
    Age:  Lower Cambrian
    Formation:  Kinzers Formation
    Location:  York County, Pennsylvania
Size:  Lepidocystis is 1.6 inches long!
This is a screamin' rare Lower Cambrian echinoderm from York County, Pennsylvania. This classic specimen was one of only a handful found by Martin Anne' while collecting with James Sprinkle in the 1970's. The primitive echinoderm is very detailed - the different sizes, shapes, and structures of the plates are easily seen (see photos). The distinct fossil is beautifully showcased on the semi-squared plate of Kinzers Shale. This is a collectible example of this very strange and historic fossil echinoderm from the Lower Cambrian of Pennsylvania. (There are actually TWO Lepidocystis on the plate, a smaller one is sitting right above the larger one in the first photo.)
