Here is a very fine specimen of Phanocrinus bellulus from the classic locality of Anna, Illinois. This Mississippian crinoid was recently obtained from an old collection, as the site has been closed to collecting for a number of years. This type of crinoid has a shallow, bowl-shaped cup and stout, uniserial arms. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The plate structure of the crinoid is clearly defined. The crinoid has the arms splayed, which displays the fine pinnules in beautiful fashion. The distinct crinoid has an unusually long stem tightly attached to the cup.
There are also two Pentremites blastoids preserved on the plate - one with brachioles preserved and one without!
The off-white color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the yellowish matrix. This is a very collectible crinoid/blastoid association from the renowned Anna, Illinois site.
