This is a rare SPLIT PAIR fossil brittlestar from the Ordovician of Pennsylvania. This distinct specimen was found by Steve Hess in 1982 at the now-closed Swatara Gap locality. There is a very large (over two inches across!), five-armed example of Taeniaster spinosus preserved on the rocks. Brittlestars are extremely uncommon in the fossil record. The detail is excellent, and the beautiful orange color is fully natural. The impressive fossil is wonderfully showcased on BOTH large plates of shale. This is a very collectible split pair Taeniaster displayed on two large slabs of Swatara Gap shale.
