Offered is an impressive and well preserved 4cm diameter example of the large Numulite Foraminifera (Rhizopoda)Assillina
sp., from the Eocene; Lutetien Stage of the Bakony Mountains, Vesprem Province; Magyarpolany, Hungary.
This unusually large form is the asexual reproducing generation of this Rhizopod Foraminifera; the sexual reproductive generation are smaller in general. In the plant Kingdom, the equivalent alternation of generations organisms are bryophytes; mosses and liverworts...............For additional interest there are numerous smaller, sexually reproductive? colonies on the matrix too.
Numulites were abundant in the warm seas of Eurasia and Central America during the Paleocene to Oligocene interval.
