This fossil trilobite, '
Calymene'
,( (possibly
Flexicalymene
) from  Arfoud, Morocco. It dates from the Middle Ordovician, 460 Million years ago. The Calymenes are thought to have been bottom dwellers in the seas and oceans, probably burrowing into and digging through the sea mud for food. The under side of the trilobite is made up of a dark brownish/black hard stone matrix.
The trilobite is still encased in its original matrix, which resembles a nodule. The piece has been split open to reveal the trilobite and the imprint.  The entire nodule measures 3.0 inches long, 2.0 inches wide and 1.55 inches high.
