Description
Ichnofossil Sub Surface Trilobite Moults with Surface Tracks Also 240123A slab approx. 10 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches measured at longest and widest points.
The surface has Trilobite, worm and Sea Scorpion (Eurypterid) Tracks all are somewhat light, the Sea Scorpion tracks are very light but still visible in the right light angle.
The main attraction is the dual Trilobite moults on the underside showing great detail.
Have been created in wet mud. They are surrounded by worm tracks of a couple types as they came to scavenge the discarded shells.
Trilobite moulted their exoskeletons periodically in order to grow just like crickets and many other insects.
Here you have two examples on about twice the size of the other.
This was done in the subsurface mud to avoid predation, because when freshly moulted they were soft and very vulnerable for a while.
This example is from my personal collection. They are somewhat RARE and usually don't show this level of detail.
Approx. Weight 3 1/2 lbs
All Pieces are in their natural state as found.
