    Description

This is a Devonian trilobite from Morocco
    - Diademaproetus praecursor
    . It is similar to
    Cornuproetus
in size and shape, but with a few morphological differences.
The anterior border of Diademaproetus is prolonged forming a 'tongue' or a sub-triangular cephalic process, whereas in
    Cornuproetu
s the glabella is rounded. The genal spines are long- sometimes reaching the distal part of the pygidium. Both
    Cornuproetus
    and
    Diademaproetus
    have holochroal eyes.
The body of the trilobite is 1.22 inches long and 0.98 inches wide (genal spine to genal spine). The entire specimen with the matrix measures 3.0 inches long, 3.2 inches wide and 1.55 inches high. Well-preserved holochroal lenses are present in both eyes.
The trilobite has been repaired through the left 'lip' of the cephalon and another across the middle of the right genal spine and across the thorax. Another repair is on the right genal spine.
In the trilobite- collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks- and the specimen often gets broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
All of my fossils are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.
