Description
There are two trilobites on the is plate. One is aMorocconites malladoides
-the only designated species within this genus, so far. The defining feature of this trilobite is its long, upturned spine extending off the cephalon. Some call it the
unicorn trilobite.
The function on the spine is not known. The other is a
Phacops sp
. They are from the Lower to Middle Devonian in Morocco.
The
Morocconites
measures 2.55 inches long (if flattened), the measurement does not include the cephalic spine. The
Phacops
is 2.3 inches long (if flattened). The matrix and trilobites together, measure 5.2 inches long, 3.3inches wide and 3.88 inches high. well preserved Schizochroal lenses are present in all four eyes.
The Morocconites has a repair running thought the right cheek and down the length of the trilobite. The Phacops has a reair running though the cephalon and diagonally across the left side of the thorax. In the trilobite- collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks and the specimens often get broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure.
All of my fossil are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.
